How did Ricks come about?
We’ve been here about 25 years now and going from strength to strength. We made it through covid. I was just thinking I want to do it for myself. I was walking past and saw it was to rent, so I just rented it like a madman.
Was it simply a case of I’m just going to name it after myself?
It was. We built the kitchen. Its evolving all the time, it looks great now. It’s got a very cosy, intimate vibe. Not initially, but it does now
What vibe were you going for initially?
We didn’t paint the walls, we just plastered them. I thought that was cool 25 years ago.
What do you love about being part of the Tooting community?
Community is the word. I have the best neighbours, they are florists and bakers, gardeners. They bring me produce and it’s nice to be part of that
What would be the thing you wish people knew about Rick’s?
I wish people knew how good it was.
You do some deals?
We do the £14 3 courses, it’s homemade. We print the menu fresh everyday.
What is your most popular dish?
It has to be fish. The brill is a standard now and it has to be filleted. Also a vegetarian and few vegans dishes, that’s important.
Anything exciting happening?
We do wine tasting evenings once a month. We want people to eat well and have fun.
What a great place, you really need to try. Go check out the full feature on my Instagram @homeswithchuk
